Hugh Nickson has been practicing law in the State of Alabama since 1995. He founded Nickson Law LLC in 2019. Before that he had become a partner level lawyer at two different large law firms and had also worked as in-house counsel at two large Alabama companies. After starting his own firm, he had the opportunity to help clients who were starting and running small and medium-sized businesses, which he personally finds much more fulfilling than working for giant corporations.
Hugh has extensive experience in Asset Purchases, Stock and Equity Purchases, Mergers & Acquisitions, Entity Formation, Contract Drafting, Contract Negotiation, Private and Public Securities transactions. Since the start of his career, he has acted as legal counsel in more than $10 billion of business-to-business transactions, which were mostly mergers and acquisitions. He has also acted as legal counsel in more than $3 billion of public and private securities offerings, including retail offerings, Qualified Institutional Buyer offerings, venture capital offerings, accredited investor (Rule 506) offerings, intrastate offerings, and Rule 504 offerings.
Hugh graduated Westminster Christian High School in Gadsden, Alabama in 1983, and he went to Birmingham-Southern College for undergrad and graduated cum laude in 1987 as a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Hugh graduated magna cum laude in 1995 from the University of Alabama School of Law. At law school, Hugh was an Associate Editor of the Alabama Law Review, and he was inducted as a member of the Order of the Coif.
Hugh has been married to Christine since 1996. They have one daughter, Isabel, who just finished her sophomore year at Haverford College in Philadelphia, and one son, Hugh, who just finished his freshman year at Skidmore College in upstate New York.
